Capturing the Beauty of the Lunar Eclipse: A Closer Look at Our Cosmic Companion”.

Science Spotlight: The Moon

On Monday, March 25th, a stunning lunar eclipse occurred. Our intern, Alexandra, along with her sister Ariana, seized the opportunity to capture some amazing photos of the moon using their telescope. Thanks to Ariana’s incredible shots, one of them was even used in this thumbnail.

Despite its beauty, how much do we really know about the moon? The moon was formed as a result of a collision that took place around 4.5 billion years ago. Interestingly, Earth is not the only planet in our solar system that has moons. For more information on this topic, check out Jeff St. Clair’s article.

Here are some discussion questions to think about:

1. What do you believe the moon is composed of?

2. Have you ever observed the moon during the day? If so, what was it like?

3. If given the chance to travel to the moon, what items would you choose to bring along with you?
