Expert Scientist and Author Captivates Glenmont Elementary School with Interactive Science and Writing Presentations

Visit from Science Author and Educator at Glenmont

Dr. Jodi Wheeler-Toppen, a science author and educator, visited Glenmont Elementary School last week for two presentations tailored to different grade levels. The younger students (K-2) learned about worm anatomy and the importance of revision in writing. They were even able to hold and observe live worms in containers, sparking their curiosity about earthworm science.

For the third through fifth-grade students, Dr. Wheeler-Toppen focused on the research involved in nonfiction writing. Using examples from her book, Dog and Cat Science Unleashed!, she showed students how to use a research cycle strategy to guide their information searches. This interactive session inspired the older students to see research as a fun and essential part of the writing process.

The event was made possible thanks to Dr. Jodi Wheeler-Toppen, Glenmont Library Media Specialist Angela Datri, and the Glenmont PTA. The students and staff at Glenmont Elementary School were grateful for the opportunity to learn from an expert in science education and writing.
