From Gamescom to Qiddiya City: Dragon Ball Z Theme Parks Bringing Anime Fans Together in Saudi Arabia

The world’s first Dragon Ball Z theme park is being built in Saudi Arabia

In Cologne, Germany at the 2019 Gamescom gaming trade fair, attendees were able to try out the latest version of Dragon Ball Z Kakarot. The event showcased the popular video game and allowed visitors to experience the gameplay firsthand.

Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia is preparing to open its first-ever Dragon Ball Z theme park as part of its Qiddiya project. Covering 5.3 million square feet, the entertainment venue will feature seven different areas inspired by the original Japanese anime television series. With over 30 themed rides, hotels, and restaurants, the theme park promises a unique experience for fans of Dragon Ball Z.

The upcoming theme park will include five “world first” rides, including a 230-foot-high roller coaster named Shenron after the series’ iconic magical dragon. Saudi Arabia has also made significant investments in video games and anime productions, with collaborations between Japan-based companies like Toei Animation and MiSK.

Qiddiya City, where the theme park will be located, is a massive project aimed at offering over 400 attractions to residents and visitors. In addition to a Six Flags park, a waterpark, and various entertainment options, Qiddiya City is expected to become a major tourist destination in Riyadh. Vision 2030, led by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, aims to boost tourism in the kingdom and diversify its economy away from oil reliance.

The Saudi Public Investment Fund has played a crucial role in funding projects like Qiddiya City with billions of dollars in assets under its control. With a goal of attracting 150 million tourists annually by 2030
