Luis Lucero appointed as the new Secretary of Mining by Javier Milei’s Government

The Ministry of Economy has announced the appointment of Luis Lucero as the new Secretary of Mining, according to a statement. Lucero is a lawyer specializing in the mining industry, natural resources law, project financing, corporate matters, and complex arbitrations and litigation. He will be taking over the position previously held by Flavia Royón, who was dismissed by Javier Milei in February following objections from deputies from Salta regarding the Omnibus Law.

Lucero is a graduate of the University of Buenos Aires with a Postgraduate Degree in Business Law from the Universidad Argentina de la Empresa. He has also completed various specialization courses and seminars at institutions such as the University of Dundee, Harvard Law School, Columbia Business School, the University of Cambridge, and University College London (UCL). Prior to his appointment, Lucero worked at several prominent legal firms in Argentina and Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman in the United States.

As head of the Mining Secretariat led by him, Lucero will be responsible for proposing, executing and monitoring Argentina’s mining policy. The Secretariat works closely with provinces, municipalities, investors and companies to coordinate international cooperation and maximize Argentina’s geological-mining potential. Last year alone
